MSC reroutes Montreal-bound vessels to Halifax

July 21, 2010

Mediterranean Shipping Company announced on July 20 that it has decided to redirect four of its vessels carrying import cargo destined for discharge in Montreal to the Port of Halifax instead. The vessel voyages will be considered as terminated at port of discharge Halifax.

This decision is a direct result of the ongoing longshoremen labour dispute at the Port of Montreal and the mounting operating costs of idle vessels that have been anchored off-shore. These costs have already totalled in the millions of dollars and are accumulating daily.

Ceres Terminals Inc. in Halifax will be managing terminal-related operations for these re-routed vessel calls and future calls until further notice.

All additional costs related to transportation of these containers to destination will be to the account of the cargo interest.
