In the community and around the industry

A sunny midweek June day provided the backdrop for the 6th annual Hamilton Port Authority Golf Tournament, held at Hamilton’s Kings Forest Golf Club.

Collectively, the more than 100 people who attended raised in excess of $5,500, which was donated to two charitable organizations: Mission to Seafarers Hamilton and Ontario Sailing.

Hamilton Port Authority staff continues to participate actively in a number of capacities to support not-for-profit organizations.

The HPA was pleased to have Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation administrator Collister (Terry) Johnson and director of trade development and public affairs Rebecca McGill attend the tournament.

HPA vice-president Ian Hamilton recently joined the board of directors of Mission to Seafarers Hamilton, replacing Linda Kirkwood, a longtime port staff member who retired in August.

Jonathan Wetselaar, port technologist, is entering his second year as a board member of the Bay Area Restoration Council, which focuses on harbour remediation and implementation of the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan.

Brent Kinnaird, market development manager, has recently been appointed to the newly created marketing advisory committee for Hamilton’s Mohawk College, providing assistance to the college business program curriculum.

President and CEO Bruce Wood was elected to the board of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA) at its annual conference held in Prince Rupert, B.C., in August.

The Hamilton Port Authority marks its 100th anniversary in 2012 and celebrations will include hosting the 2012 ACPA Conference.

HPA staff participated in the Heart and Stroke Foundation Big Bike event for the seventh year, raising nearly $2,000, adding to their historical total of more than $11,000.
