June 21, 2010

Robert Masson, the former president of SODES (the St. Lawrence Economic Development Council), has joined the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative (GLSLCI) as director of communications and government affairs for Quebec.

The Chicago-based GLSLCI is a bi-national coalition of mayors and other local officials that works with federal, state and provincial governments to advance the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley founded the GLSLCI in 2003. Toronto Mayor David Miller is the founding Canadian chair.

Over the past six years, the organization has grown to include 71 member municipalities of all sizes from around the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Basin, representing more than 13 million people.

Mr. Masson has more than 30 years of experience in the maritime industry. Prior to joining SODES in 2008, he served as vice-president of marketing and development for the Montreal Port Authority, and as president and CEO of the Trois-Rivières Port Authority. Mr. Masson was chairman of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities in 2003.
